On 10 June 2026, the Embassy of Japan in Zambia held a book handover ceremony at Evelyn Hone College of Applied Arts and Commerce under the Nippon Foundation’s READ JAPAN PROJECT.

The ceremony was attended by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Technology and Science represented by Director, Mrs. Charity Nyirongo, Acting Principal of Evelyn Hone College, and other distinguished guests.

In his remarks, H.E. Mr. Akiteru Mikami, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zambia, expressed his hope that the 175 books donated through the project would serve as valuable resources for students, researchers, and faculty members seeking to deepen their understanding of Japan’s culture, arts, history, economy, politics, and contemporary society. He also emphasized the importance of cultural exchange in strengthening mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and Zambia.

A message from Mr. Yohei Sasakawa, Honorary Chair of the Nippon Foundation, was delivered. In his message, Mr. Sasakawa highlighted the important role played by Evelyn Hone College in nurturing practical and career-oriented human resources across various fields, and expressed his hope that the donated books would help deepen understanding of Japan and serve as a bridge between the peoples of Japan and Zambia.

The donation forms part of the READ JAPAN PROJECT, through which the Nippon Foundation donates books on Japan to universities, libraries, and research institutions around the world. This is the fourth such donation in Zambia, following donations to the University of Zambia in 2021 and 2024 and to the Copperbelt University in 2023.
