Handover Ceremony for the Project for Provision of an Ambulance to Kabwe District Health Office

On 8th May 2025, Ambassador Takeuchi attended the handover ceremony for the Project for the Provision of an Ambulance to the Kabwe District Health Office in Central Province. The project is funded by Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects with a grant of approximately 80,000 US dollars.
 
The ceremony was attended by the distinguished guests including Honourable Mwabashike Nkulukusa, Minister of Central Province, and other senior officials from the Provincial and District Health Offices.
 
With the donation of the ambulance and its associated medical equipment from Japan, this project aims to provide the prompt and proper emergency rescue and medical service and to improve the emergency patient transportation system in Kabwe District, Central Province. In the past, due to lack of functional ambulance, its residents had challenges in accessing to the appropriate emergency transfer and medical care, and also to the advanced medical service in the region.
 
During this ceremony, Provincial Minister Nkulukusa stated that this new ambulance would significantly contribute to strengthening emergency response and reducing patient transportation time in the 25 urban facilities and 19 surrounding facilities which fall under the jurisdiction of the Kabwe District Health Office. Minister particularly emphasized the importance of responding to maternal and child health, and critical patients, and mentioned that Japan’s grassroots grant project is a shining example of effective diplomacy that addresses the needs of those who need it most.
 
Ambassador Takeuchi stated the importance of strengthening regional health infrastructure and expressed his hope that the donated ambulance would save many precious lives.
 
Japan remains committed to supporting Zambia’s efforts in improving access to quality healthcare services for all, especially in rural areas, through collaboration with government institutions and local stakeholders.
