Signing and Exchange of Notes with UNDP on Japan’s Grant Aid for “the Project for the Development of Basic Infrastructure in Settlements for the Displaced Persons and their Host Communities”

On 29th January 2025, at the Office of the Vice President, Ambassador TAKEUCHI Kazuyuki and UNDP Zambia Resident Representative Mr. James Wakiaga signed and exchanged notes for "the Project for the Development of Basic Infrastructure in Settlements for the Displaced Persons and their Host Communities in the Republic of Zambia," amounting to a total grant of 841 million Japanese yen (approximately 5.9 million US dollars).
 
The ceremony was attended by Her Honour the Vice President, W.K. Mutale Nalumango and other senior government officials, including Ms. Mavis Nkomeshya, Permanent Secretary for the Resettlement Division at the Office of the Vice President.
 
This project aims at improving infrastructure as well as access to the social services in the Meheba and Mayukwayukwa resettlement communities, and eventually leading to the improvement of livelihood of displaced persons and host communities and to strengthening local integration, and ultimately contributing to the peaceful co-habitation of both displaced and host communities.
 
During the ceremony, Ambassador Takeuchi stated that Japan remains committed to supporting collective efforts in addressing humanitarian crises worldwide through its “Humanitarian Development Peace Nexus” approach, that includes easing pressure on host communities, enhancing self-reliance as well as creating a conducive environment for safe, dignified and voluntary return for displaced persons. 
 
He expressed confidence in the success of the project’s implementation process and expressed sincere hope that it would contribute to the further strengthening of the already existing cordial relations between the peoples and governments of Japan and Zambia.
