On 11 December 2024, 158 Japan-related books were donated to the University of Zambia library through the READ JAPAN PROJECT, a book donation project funded by The Nippon Foundation. This is the second donation of books to the University of Zambia, following the first donation of 90 books in 2021.

The READ JAPAN PROJECT was launched by The Nippon Foundation in 2008 with the aim of promoting understanding of Japan around the world and has so far donated Japan-related English-language books to more than 1,400 libraries worldwide. Currently, the Tokyo Foundation for Policy Research is administering the project with financial support from The Nippon Foundation, and in 2023, 155 books were donated to Copperbelt University through the same project, too.

Ambassador Takeuchi and Vice-Chancellor Mundia Muya, among others, attended the handover ceremony. In his address, Ambassador Takeuchi stated that he looked forward to the continued use and enjoyment of these books, which will have a positive impact on students, researchers and faculties.
