On 12th November 2024, Ambassador Takeuchi attended the Ground-Breaking Ceremony of the Kitwe Vocational Training Centre (KVTC) and the handover of construction machinery from Hitachi Construction Machinery. The construction of the Centre and donation of the machinery are part of “the Project for Promoting Youth Employment through Construction Equipment Operating Skills Training,” which has been conceptualised and worked out in harmony among stakeholders concerned, namely the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Government of Zambia, Hitachi Construction Machinery Zambia and the Government of Japan. The project, which runs over a period of four years from 2021 to 2025 has been implemented at a total cost of approximately US$3.6 million, funded by the grant assistance of the Government of Japan.
The ceremony was officiated by Ms. Precious Lisulo, Director of Vocational Education and Training of the Ministry of Technology and Science, who represented Honourable Felix Mutati, Minister of Technology and Science. The event was attended by senior government officials, UNIDO representatives, President of Hitachi Heavy Construction Machinery Zambia, the principal and students of KVTC and others.
During the ceremony, Ambassador stated that the construction of the Centre and the donation of the construction machinery would help young people acquire the much-needed skills in the operation of construction equipment, which eventually contribute to the development of the country.
