Annual Assembly of Japan Scholars 2024
On 23 September 2024, the Embassy of Japan hosted the Annual Assembly of Japan Scholars, which brought together former students who had studied in Japan on a scholarship from the Japanese government (MEXT Scholarship).
In his opening remarks, Ambassador TAKEUCHI Kazuyuki emphasised the importance of the role played by Japan scholars in the bilateral relations between Japan and Zambia. Honourable Douglas Shakarima, M.P., Minister of Education, also delivered a speech in which he thanked Japan for its support to Zambia over the years in the field of education, including academic exchanges. In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Zambia, the meeting was also attended by special guests, representatives of the University of Zambia led by Vice-Chancellor Mundia Muya and representatives of Hokkaido University led by Vice-Chancellor TAKAHASHI Aya. Ambassador Takeuchi said the close and long-standing academic cooperation that has been built between the two universities, particularly in the field of veterinary medicine, was the flagship of the cooperation between Japan and Zambia.
The members of the Japan Scholars Association in Zambia, led by Prof. Michelo Syakalima, had a lively exchange of views with the academic representatives and fellow scholars.
