2024/10/31

On 28th October 2024, Ambassador Takeuchi attended the handover ceremony of a digital X-ray machine to Bauleni Health Centre in Lusaka. The Japanese Government has granted approximately 553,000 US dollars under the Grant Assitance for Japanese NGO for the project, “TB Control through the Strengthening Case Finding and Management at Health Facilities in Lusaka District (Phase 2)”, which is implemented by the Japan Anti-Tuberculosis Association (JATA).

The Project consists of three phases. This second phase project, initiated in March 2024 under a grant contract between the Japan Anti-Tuberculosis Association (JATA) and the Government of Japan, aims to improve the early detection and treatment of TB patients as well as to expand TB services both qualitatively and quantitatively in four health facilities in Lusaka District. This will also improve healthcare services not only in Lusaka but also in the whole Zambia, enhancing diagnostic capabilities and supporting public health initiatives.

Dr. Kennedy Lishimpi, Permanent Secretary, represented the Guest of Honour, Honourable Minister of Health Dr. Elijah Muchima, in receiving the digital X-ray machine at Bauleni Health Centre. The event was attended by senior government officials, key representatives from Bauleni Health Centre, and a gathering of Bauleni residents.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Takeuchi expressed his hope that this project will strengthen the early detection and treatment of TB, contributing to the healthcare of local residents. He also wished that bilateral cooperation in the health sector will be further reinforced and developed in the years to come.
