Ambassador's Commendation and Handover ceremony for Luano Health Post, built by Organisation to support Rural Medicine in Zambia (ORMZ)

On 28th June 2024, Mr. OMINATO Satoshi, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the Embassy of Japan in Zambia, attended the handover ceremony of the Luano Health Post in Luano, Chisamba District, Central Province. The ceremony was attended by more than 300 people, including Chief Chamuka of Lenje people of Chisamba district, senior provincial and district officials and chiefs of villages.
 
Construction of the Luano Health Post was funded by a Japanese NGO “Organisation to support Rural Medicine in Zambia (ORMZ)”. With this new health post, Luano residents will be able to access health service so closer to their home that they will no longer have to walk for hours to receive a medical treatment when they are unwell.  
 
At the handover ceremony, Mr. Ominato commended the founder of the ORMZ, Dr. YAMAMOTO Kayoko, and highly appreciated her organisation for their commitment and remarkable achievements over the past 11 years. Their achievement include the provision of health care to over 43,000 people in Chisamba District, training of 32 community health workers, drilling 22 boreholes and construction of 9 health facilities. At the end of the ceremony, Mr. Ominato, on behalf of Ambassador Takeuchi, conferred the Ambassador’s Commendation on the ORMZ for all their dedicated works that contributed to promoting mutual understanding and friendship as well as goodwill between Japan and Zambia.
 
The Government of Japan will continue to support the efforts of the Government of Zambia to enhance its health sector through various assistance including support to NGOs.
