A total of 230 young people from Japan and 13 other countries around the world participated in the SWY Programme 2023-24, organised by the Cabinet Office of Japan, to deepen their international understanding and enhance their leadership skills through various activities such as discussions and cultural exchange. This year marked the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Zambia, and nine youths, the first-time-ever participants from Zambia to the programme, successfully completed the entire programme, including a four-week onboard session in Japan.

At the beginning, the Participating Youths reported their achievements. They shared many fruitful experiences such as the group discussions, learning from Japan, activities to showcase Zambia and exchanges with the youths from other countries.
Ambassador Takeuchi, expressed his hope that the Participating Youths would use the lessons they had learned from the programme to build bridges of friendship between Japan and Zambia, and extend such bridges towards the future of the world, and presented them with the certificates of completion. At the end of the ceremony, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts, Mr Chileshe, expressed the readiness of the Ministry to support the participating youths in implementing the action points based on what they had learnt and to incorporate their ideas and suggestions into the work.
