Contract Signing Ceremony for the Project for Construction of Primary School Buildings in Meheba Resettlement Scheme at Kalumbila District, North-Western Province under Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects
2023/3/10
On 7th March 2023, H.E. Mr. TAKEUCHI Kazuyuki, Ambassador of Japan to Zambia, and Mr. Thomas M. Lupapula, Education Project Manager of Brave Heart Foundation, signed the grant contract amounting up to 83,438 US dollars for “Construction of Primary School Buildings in Meheba Resettlement Scheme at Kalumbila District, North-Western Province” within the framework of Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).
Brave Heart Foundation has been engaged in various activities especially in the field of education such as providing teaching materials and stationery to children who cannot attend school and dispatching volunteer teachers to the Meheba Resettlement Scheme since 2012. Despite their efforts, the education situation at the settlement, especially the area for former refugees, has not improved.
Given the circumstances, the Government of Japan has decided to extend the grant for constructing a primary school (1×3 and 1×4) along with ablution blocks and a borehole and installing a solar panel. Through the implementation of this project, it is expected that approximately 400 children in the Resettlement Scheme, including children from the surrounding areas, will be able to receive primary education in an appropriate educational environment. It will also lead to promote regional integration of former refugees and assist their integration with the local communities.
During the ceremony, Mr. Takeuchi mentioned that the project outcome will help achieve the 8th National Development Plan (8NDP) by increasing access to education and improving its quality since the project is consistent with the goal of 8NDP: achieving universal access to education as espoused by the Vision 2030 and the SDGs.
