On 25 January, the "Churaumi Remote Lecture in Zambia - Aquarium Live Online Lectures" was held at David Kaunda Technical Secondary School in Lusaka. This project was organized by the Okinawa Churashima Foundation and NPO Rocinantes to provide children in Zambia with an opportunity to experience the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium. The opening ceremony of the project was attended by Mr. OMINATO Satoshi, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Japan in Zambia, and distinguished guests including The Rt. Hon. Denny TAMAKI, Governor of Okinawa Prefecture and Mr. Joel Kamoko, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education.

The Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium has been holding online distance learning courses for pediatric wards and other facilities in Japan amid its repeated physical closures to the public due to the COVID pandemic. This time, the project is also held at the David Kaunda School and Kabwe Children's Hospital. Zambian children, who have few opportunities to interact with marine life and the environment, had the opportunity to connect with the Aquarium in real time and learn about the marine environment interactively through guided tours and Q&A sessions by researchers and curators.

The Embassy hopes that these learning opportunities will deepen mutual understanding between Japan and Zambia.
