Message of the Ambassador, H.E. Mr. TAKEUCHI Kazuyuki
2023/1/11

Happy New Year!
This is the first new year after my arrival on December 20 last year in Zambia as the Ambassador to this great country. Please let me express my new year greeting message that would also serve as my arrival message.
COVID-19 still casts a shadow over Japanese society, but here in Zambia I have felt during my first 3 weeks that everything is getting back to normal. We will continue to monitor the infection situation in Zambia and support the Government of Zambia in its efforts to combat the disease.
Zambia is one of the most important countries in the African continent in various aspects. In particular, the democratic change of government by the elections held in August 2021 was a strong reminder that Zambia, often referred to as 'beacon of hope in Africa,' shares universal values with Japan. Given this situation and the recently increasing number of Japanese residents after the steep decline while COVID-19 was still raging, I believe it is time to think about and move forward to build post-COVID Zambia-Japan relationship, aiming to Building Back Better. I believe this will be stronger and more comprehensive one, which includes the enhancement of Japan’s long-established assistance in the fields of infrastructure development, health, agriculture, education and human resource development. I am quite eager to cast everything I have with me to make this relationship more reliable than ever.
Except my several past business trip experience, this is my first Zambia in my life and first posting in the African continent as well. I am so much excited to see this ‘first’ of mine in any sense as the Ambassador to this great country. There might be shortcomings arising from my inexperience, but I will surely make up for them with enthusiasm. I will be more than honored and happy for any support.
