Handover Ceremony for“Construction of a New School Building for a Community School in Chipata District, Eastern Province”

 On 13th January 2022, the handover ceremony for “The Project for the Construction of a New School Building for a Community School in Chipata District, Eastern Province” was held at Madaliso Community School in Chipata. The ceremony was attended by Mr. MIZUUCHI Ryuta, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zambia and distinguished guests including Ms. Beauty Undi Phiri, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Eastern Provincial, Dr. Allan Lingambe, Provincial Education Officer, Mr. George Mwanza, Chipata City Mayor, Mr. Levison Jere, Chief Kapatamoyo and totaling about 40 people.
 
 Since its establishment in 2000, Madaliso Widows Orphans and Vulnerable Children Group has been supporting orphans and vulnerable children by providing quality education in a protective school environment. Despite of the efforts, the group had to face many challenges such as lack of resources and finance in order to support orphans and vulnerable children as they wished to. This unpleasant situation caused in increasing cases of absenteeism and dropouts.
 
 Along with this situation, the Government of Japan offered to the group Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects amounting up to 122,561 US dollars for the purpose of constructing 1×3 classroom block, 1×2 classroom block, 1 ablution block, 4 VIP latrines and borehole with solar system and procuring school furniture. With the completion of the project, the school is now expects that number of absenteeism and dropouts in school curriculum will be reduced, and that around 700 pupils will be granted a proper learning environment all year around.
 
 During the ceremony, Mr. MIZUUCHI Ryuta mentioned that the importance of community where children should be protected and well taken care of by the community itself at school. This will lead for prevention of alcohol and drugs abuse, early marriage and pregnancy of the teenage girls including GBV.
