On Tuesday 3rd March 2020, Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Zambia, in cooperation with Nerd Otaku, hosted “Lusaka JAPAN DAY 2020” at Arcades Mall.

This event was opened by H.E. Mr. Mizuuchi Ryuta with his opening remarks. The Zambian Government was represented by Ms. Agnes Nyendwa, Vice Chairperson, National Arts Council, Ministry of Tourism and Arts. In her remarks, Mrs. Nyendwa expressed her gratitude for this cultural initiative and urged the audience to continue to share and celebrate cultures through art.

The festival was 13th of this kind and aims to familiarize the Zambians with a selection of Japanese cultural heritage.

From 12:00 to 16:00 hours, the Arcades Mall become a showcase of both traditional and modern Japanese culture. Japanese and Zambians, youth and old, presented to the audience Calligraphy, Origami Paper Folding, Kimono Modeling, Anime and Manga, and other examples of cultural goods.

Meanwhile, the Sake-lovers chatted away while experimenting the taste of the traditional Japanese beverage.

Many people who visited the Lusaka Japan Day venue were able to experience Japanese culture by themselves at different exhibition tables, showing an interest in Japanese Sake, which is not familiar in Zambia. As there are only limited occasions available for experiencing Japanese culture in Zambia, such an annual event as Lusaka Japan Day is expected to promote exchanges and deepen mutual understanding between Japan and Zambia, leading to further development of their friendship.
