Since its establishment as a small rural clinic in 1964, Mtendere Mission Hospital has been providing variety of medical services to the people in Chirundu and the surrounding area. However, the X-ray equipment possessed by the radiology department was an outdated-analogue type, thus the image it produces was low in quality and took time to develop, subsequently resulting in the long wait for the patients.

Against this background, Government of Japan responded positively and decided to extend the support to the Mtendere Mission Hospital the support to facilitate the procurement of the X-ray Equipment from FUJI FILM South Africa (Ltd), amounting up to 137,375 US Dollars. With the completion of the project, the Hospital is now able to produce clearer images quicker which will contribute to reducing the waiting time for the patients.

In the speech delivered during the handover ceremony, Ambassador MIZUUCHI stated “Japan is holding the top position in the medical industry, and the Japanese Government is supporting the leading Japanese companies in this business so that those in need all over the world have an access to the highest-quality Japanese technologies”.

During the tour of the radiology department, Ambassador MIZUUCHI observeddemonstrated how the X-ray equipment was operated by a radiologist who had been trained by the FUJI FILM South Africa (Ltd) as part of its contribution to the project.
