Annual Assembly of Japan Scholars

          On 5th February 2020, Embassy of Japan hosted the Annual Assembly of Japan Scholars, where former and new scholarship students to Japan gathered.

          At the Assembly, H.E. Mr. MIZUUCHI Ryuta, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zambia, delivered a keynote-statement to the guests concerning the academic exchanges between Japan and Zambia. The Zambian Government was Hon. Brian Mushimba, Minister of Higher Education as the Guest of honour. Further, Dr. Michelo Syakalima, President of Japan Scholars Association (Senior Lecturer, School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Zambia), and Prof. NISHII Junji, Vice-President of Hokkaido University also addressed the audience concerning the achievements made so far by the academic exchanges between Japan and Zambia.

          The Government of Japan offers scholarships to international students who wish to study in postgraduate, undergraduate, and other programmes at Japanese universities. The aim of these scholarships is to promote international exchange, thus enhance Japan’s relationship with other countries, and contribute to human resource development in the countries concerned. This year, three students from Zambia has been accepted as scholarship students through the Japanese Government’s Scholarship Programme.

          A number of prominent guests from JICA, Hokkaido University, public sector to private sector companies as well as educational institutes, academic experts and other prominent persons from various organisations attended the reception.

          As the Annual Assembly provides an opportunity for the strengthening of Japan Scholars Association to develop the networks among its members and vitalize the activities of the Association, the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Zambia hopes that this will contribute to the consolidation of the friendly relationship between Japan and Zambia.
