2020/2/17

On 7th February 2020, Mr. MIZUUCHI Ryuta, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zambia, and Madaliso Widows Orphans and Vulnerable Children Group, signed a grant contract amounting to up to 122,561 US Dollars for implementing a project titled “The Project for the Construction of a New School Building at Madaliso Community OVC School in Chipata District, Eastern Province”.
In this school, pupils had to learn at classes in unsheltered circumstances due to the lack of classrooms without protection against the wind and rain. Nor was adequate furniture available. This, indeed, has contributed to the increase in the cases of absenteeism among pupils.
Under the circumstances, Government of Japan decided to extend to the Madaliso Widows Orphans and Vulnerable Children Group the support to facilitate the construction of three new classrooms and new toilet facility of the Madaliso Community OVC School as well as rehabilitation of the existing two classrooms and the procurement of necessary school furniture.
Mr. MIZUUCHI Ryuta, Ambassador of Japan to Zambia at this ceremony stated in his speech (click here) that, in Japan, children were often regarded as the common asset of the local communities and of the nation as a whole, and educated by the local temples or in the household of Chief of the community, which served as a basis for the expansion of the modern educational system nationwide in the Meiji Period. And he hoped that children who will be taken care of not only by the Madaliso community school, but also by the whole community, and that, they will be brought up to become grown-ups who, in turn, will be in the position to contribute to the community and the Zambian Nation as a whole.
Ms. Chuulu, Director of Open and Distance Education of Ministry of General Education, who joined the ceremony as Guest of Honour, cautioned the Madaliso Widows Orphans and Vulnerable Children Group that the support granted by the Government of Japan is important, and asked the group to avoid any insufficient use of the fund.
