2020/1/24

On 20th January, Ambassador Mizuuchi hosted at his residence an Activity Report Presentation of JOICFP (Japanese Organization for International Cooperation in Family Planning), a Japanese NGO in the field of maternal and child health, on its programme titled “Promotion of Women’s Health throughout the Life Cycle at One-Stop Service Site (OSSS) in Zambia”, funded by the Japanese government as a project of “Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects” since 2018. In addition to JOICFP’s delegates, the event was attached by Dr. Kennedy Malama, Permanent Secretary, and other high-ranking officials from Ministry of Health, health staff from Copperbelt Provincial Health Office, and Mr. Laurian Haangala, Vice President of ZACCI (Zambia Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry) and its members.

In Masaiti, Mupongwe and Lufwanyama district in Copperbelt province, there are lots of women suffering from the lack of quality medical and health services. In order to improve this harsh situation, JOICFP has been establishing and operating OSSSs which consist of a maternity waiting house and a youth centre, as well as conducting trainings for health workers in those areas. JOICFP’s activities have contributed to increasing the rate of women who go to prenatal and postnatal check-ups, and birth rate in designated medical facilities in the target districts.

On top of this, in collaboration with Link Theory Japan Co Ltd, JOICFP has conducted trainings on sewing and cotton farming for the local women in order to promote their self-sustainability, which resulted in one of the women’s groups successfully commercializing their sewing activity. Thus, JOICFP has been highly evaluated by both health and business sectors in Zambia.
