ourtesy Call by JICA Volunteers to His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu
2019/4/12

Mr. Junichi Hanai, JICA Zambia Chief Representative, explained “One Volunteer, One Project”, referring to Zambia’s slogan, “One Zambia, One Nation”, and that the activities of one volunteer is one project which is as valuable as that of a large financial project.
4 representatives among the volunteers delivered speeches in local languages, Nyanja, Lozi, Bemba and Tonga. President Lungu nodded with smile from time to time, and responded to the speeches in the local languages, and shook hands with each one of them.
In his speech, Ambassador Sobashima stated that he believed that in the new phase of cooperation between our two countries in the new era of Japan, the JICA volunteers would continue to play an important role, among other cooperation between the two countries.
President Lungu commended the activities of JICA volunteers in the areas of health, education, energy, water resources and disaster management, agriculture and rural development, and private sector development, and expressed his confidence that Zambian citizens had acquired some valuable skills and knowledge from the volunteers, and they would be able to utilise them in the socio-economic development of the country. Furthermore, President Lungu thanked the volunteers for their patience, perseverance and generous contributions, and appealed to Zambian citizens to emulate the volunteers in their communities without expecting anything in return.
After the speeches, while refreshments were being served, President Lungu went around all the tables to interact with the volunteers. President Lungu also guided the volunteers and others to the garden in the State House to view animals, including giraffes, and to feed the fish in the fish pond. After taking a group photo, President Lungu shook hands with each and every one of the volunteers before seeing them off.
