Handover Ceremony for the Project for the Construction of Mpunde Secondary School in Kabwe District, Central Province
2019/3/28

The handover ceremony of a newly constructed 3 classroom block and required furniture, at Mpunde Primary School, took place on Friday, 22nd March 2019. This is marked the completion of “the Project for the Construction of Mpunde Secondary School in Kabwe District, Central Province” with the funds provided by the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects by the Government of Japan.
The ceremony was attended by Mr. Hidenobu Sobashima, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Patric Mwanasawa, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Central Province, Senior Chief Chipepo Mukuni Ng’ombe, Ms. Catherine Mutale, Senior Education Standard Officer of Central Province, Ms. Mary Mwiko, Kapiri Mposhi District Education Board Secretary, Mr. Mulenga Kaunda, District Administrative Officer, Mrs. Bernadette Chai, Ward Councilor, Sr. Vielar Hamatu, Head Teacher of the school, and its teachers and pupils, totaling about 500 people.
The School which had been established in 2000, recently accepted more than 1,000 pupils from pre-school to grade 9. However, due to the insufficient number of classrooms, the school could not accept the increasing number of children in the area. Neither was it able to provide the secondary education. Responding to the request by Mpunde Primary School for assistance, the Government of Japan decided to extend up to US$ 68,575 for constructing a 3 classroom block and for procuring the required furniture.
With the completion of this project, about 150 additional pupils, including of those for grades 10 to 12, in addition to the current coverage of up to grade 9 will be accommodated.
