Zambia-Japan Handball Friendship Match

On Saturday 9th March 2019, the Handball Association of Zambia (HAZ) hosted Zambia-Japan Handball Friendship Match at National Sports Development Center in Lusaka.
The friendship match was fought by the Japanese team consisting of members of JOCV, Hokkaido University and the Embassy of Japan and the Zambian team mainly formed by the executives of HAZ. The seesaw game resulted in Zambia’s win by 25 to 22.
Around 100 people including young Zambian handball players and Japanese residents in and around Lusaka observed the match, loudly cheering both teams.
At the event, HAZ President Victor Banda commended the friendly bilateral relationship between Zambia and Japan, and expressed his gratitude to the many members of the Japanese community for their support to promote handball in Zambia.
Mr. Raphael Mulenga, Chief of Sports Development Office, Ministry of Youth, Sport and Child Development, who represented the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, thanked Japan for its support to various sport activities in Zambia, including handball.
Ambassador Sobashima, explained the support by a number of Japanese for promotion of handball in Zambia, expressed his hope that the Zambian handball team would qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, and declared that to this end he would continue to cheer and support the Zambian handball team.
