Handover Ceremony for the Project for the Construction of a New School Building at Kine Community School in Mumbwa, Central Province
2018/4/25

On 18th April 2018, Mr. Hidenobu Sobashima, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zambia, handed over a new school building to Kine Community School in Chitambala Village of Mumbwa District, Central Province. The project was implemented by the Community for Human Development (CHD), with funds provided by the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects by the Government of Japan.
The ceremony was attended by Mr. Hidenobu Sobashima, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Felix Ndopu, Mumba District Comissioner, Ms. Edess Mukuba, Chitambala Headwoman, Mr. Richard N. Imasiku, Mumbwa District Education Board Secretary, Pastor Reberiah K. Monde, Executive Director of Community for Human Development, Mr. Gershom Mengo, Head Master, teachers and pupils of Kine Community School, and the villagers totaling about 200 people.
The school which was established in 2002, could not accommodate increasing children in the area due to the limited number of classrooms, providing education for pupils from Grade 1 to Grade 6. The school did not have a staff room for teachers to prepare for their classes, either.
Responding to the request by CHD for assistance, the Japanese Government decided to extend up to US$76,956 for the purpose of constructing a new school building, with three classrooms and necessary furniture.
With the completion of this project, additional 120 pupils including those of pre-school and Grade 7 are now able to receive education. Also, with the staff room provided, teachers are now able to prepare for their classes and do their desk works. These are expected to result in the expansion and development of education there.
