Signing Ceremony with Association for Aid and Relief, Japan (AAR Japan) for the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects by the Government of Japan (Maternal and Child Health Project in Chisankane Area, Kafue District)

On 7th March, Mr. Hidenobu Sobashima, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zambia, and Mr. Daisuke Kanamori, Acting Country Representative of Association for Aid and Relief, Japan (AAR Japan), signed a grant contract amounting to up to 445,663 United States Dollars, or approximately 4.4 million Zambian Kwacha, for the implementation of a project of the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects “Maternal and Child Health Project in Chisankane Area, Kafue District (Phase Three)”. The contract covers the third year of the three-year development cooperation project targeting Chisankane area of Kafue District, Lusaka Province. Through the three-year project, 1,455,131 United States Dollars in total were granted to AAR Japan.
During Phase Three of the project, AAR Japan will construct a maternity waiting facility at a health post, as well as increase the number of mobilization of Skilled Birth Attendants at the health post to reduce the risks involved with child delivery. In continuation of Phase Two of the project, AAR Japan will also implement the visits of medical personnel of the health centre and health post concerned to the surrounding communities to promote health of the residents.
Through the “Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO projects” scheme, the Government of Japan provides grant assistance to Japanese NGOs which implement economic and social development projects in developing countries.
