On 10th May 2017, Mr. Hidenobu Sobashima, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zambia, Ms. Janet Rogan, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Zambia and Ms. Juliana Shoko Chilombo, Permanent Secretary, Office of the Vice President, among others, attended the ceremony to handover the grants totaling 2,087,000 US dollars from the government of Japan to the UN agencies who are working for sustainable resettlement of former refugees in Zambia, in the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit in Lusaka.

The “Local Integration Programme" under way in Zambia, which promotes  sustainable resettlement of former refugees in Zambia, is a unique effort, that is highly appreciated by the UN agencies and Zambia’s neighboring countries. The grants will be used for such self-reliant activities as vocational training for former refugees, infrastructure development of places of resettlement and construction of schools and health facilities by the UN agencies.
