Handover Ceremony of X-ray Equipment donated by Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects at Ngwerere Rural Health Centre
2017/4/6

The handover ceremony of X-ray equipment took place at Ngwerere Rural Health Centre (RHC) in Chongwe District on 24th March 2017, as an event commemorating the World TB Day. The X-ray equipment was donated to Chongwe District Medical Office as part of the Project for the Comprehensive TB and HIV Control with a Strengthened Community Participation in Rural Area in Chongwe District, Zambia.
Those present at the ceremony included H. E. Mr. Hidenobu SOBASHIMA, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Evans M’hambi, Deputy Mayor of Chongwe, and Mr. Shigeo KOBAYASHI, Acting Representative of JATA Zambia Office.
Earlier, Ngwerere RHC had no X-ray machine, which forced the patients to travel to other health facilities such as Chongwe District Hospital for TB diagnosis and treatment. With the X-ray equipment donated the community members now have access to comprehensive medical services related to TB, and thus better TB treatment and improved prevention of co-infection of TB and HIV/AIDS in Chongwe District are expected.
Through the “Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects” scheme, the Government of Japan provides grant assistance to Japanese NGOs which implement economic and social development projects in developing countries.
