On 17 March 2017, the Handover Ceremony of the Japanese TV Program “Hanako and Anne” took place in Lusaka.

Since 2008, Japan has continuously provided Japanese TV programs to major TV stations in Zambia, and MUVI TV has received 9 programs including educational programs and human dramas from 2010 until last year.

“Hanako and Anne” is the story of the life of a remarkable woman who, despite coming from a very humble background, was able to overcome all obstacles that she faced in her quest to accomplish her goals, and ultimately became a famous translator.

Mr. Hidenobu Sobashima, Ambassador of Japan to Zambia, mentioned in his speech delivered at the ceremony, that, as both the Government of Japan and the Government of the Republic of Zambia were taking measures for women to become more active in various fields in the society, he hoped that many many more shining women like Hanako would be there in Zambia, after the broadcasting of this program. In response, Mr. Angel Phiri, General Manager, MUVI Television, expressed his gratitude for this assistance for Japan.

It is hoped that the provision of this TV program will contribute to deepedning understanding of Japanese culture and arts by Zambians, help broaden the exchange between the two countries, to further strengthen the friendship.
