Handover of the Expanded Three Community Schools in Katete to Zambian Impact Network Ltd.

On 28th February 2017, Mr. Hidenobu Sobashima, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zambia, handed over a new school building to each of the three community schools in Katete to Zambian Impact Network Ltd.. This project was implemented through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project with the grant amounting to 45,007 US Dollars. About 300 people were present at this event including Ambassador Sobashima, Mr. Chanda Kasolo, Permanent Secretary for Eastern Province, His Royal Highness Chief M’bam’gombe, Mr. Joseph Mukokola, Katete District Commissioner, and Mr. Daniel Mwanza, Regional Director, Zambian Impact Network Ltd.
Zambian Impact Network Ltd. has provided primary education for children in the outskirts of Katete. They constructed 10 community schools (including the recently constructed one school) and have been conducting e-learning classes, bringing about good study results of the children.
Out of these schools which they constructed, 3 schools registered students from Grade 1 to Grade 4, but as each of the 3 schools had only 2 classrooms to accommodate students from Grade 1 to Grade 3, Grade 4 students studied in nearby churches without sufficient facilities.
Under the circumstances, the Government of Japan has decided to support the construction of a new building with two classrooms and for the provision of the necessary furniture there for each of the three schools. With the completion of this project, the study environment of about 720 students has been improved and about 250 additional students are now able to proceed to Grade 5.
