On 2nd March, Mr. Hidenobu SOBASHIMA, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zambia, signed, on behalf of the Government of Japan, a grant contract with Mr. Ryota HIRAMA, Country Director of Association for Aid and Relief Japan (AAR Japan).

The contract, amounting to 491,532 United States dollars, or approximately 4.8 million Zambian Kwacha, was signed for the implementation of the Maternal and Child Health Project in Chisankane Area, Kafue District, Phase2.

AAR Japan continues to endeavour to improve the maternal, newborn and child health situations through the development of the basic health services system in Chisankane Area. Their activities for this year include the construction of a maternity waiting ward and another staff house in the Old Kabweza Health Post, and the training of 40 Neighbourhood Health Committee (NHC) members in Chisankane Area.

It is hoped that the activities of AAR Japan will further contribute to the reduction of mortality rates of mothers and babies in Kafue Districts.
