On 15th February 2017, Mr. Hidenobu Sobashima, Ambassador of Japan to Zambia signed a grant contract, on behalf of the Government of Japan, with Sr. Prisca Phiri, Head Teacher of Kasisi Girls’ Secondary School. The contract, amounting to 91,613 US Dollars, was signed for a project of “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects”, i.e. the Project for the Construction of New Science Laboratory at Kasisi Girls’ Secondary School in Chongwe, Lusaka Province.

The recipient organization, Kasisi Girls’ Secondary School has provided education not only for vulnerable girls in Kasisi area but also for orphan girls throughout Zambia accommodating them at their school.

At Kasisi Girls’ Secondary School about 350 girls of the ages from 14 to 19 study. However, as the school does not have an appropriate science laboratory, it is not able to conduct scientific experiments as requested by the curricula of the Ministry of General Education.

Thus, building a new science laboratory in the school was hoped for, and the school requested Japan to assist its construction. The Government of Japan considered and decided to extend 91,613 US Dollars for the construction of a new science laboratory building with three experiment rooms and for procuring the necessary furniture and equipment.

When completed, about 350 girl students from Grade 8 to Grade 12 will be able to conduct appropriate scientific experiments, paving the way for obtaining the certificate of the completion of Grade 12.
