Visit of the JOCV Volunteers’ Families and Friends

 On 9th December 2016, Mr. Hidenobu Sobashima, Ambassador of Japan to Zambia received the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCVs), as well as their families and friends, who were visiting Zambia, at his Residence.

 On that occasion, the 9 JOCVs, who participated in the event, introduced their activities which ranged from public administration, community development, primary education, science education, improvement of livelihood and sports. The volunteers are dispatched across the country to Choma in Southern Province; Chongwe, Chilanga, Kafue and Rufunsa in Lusaka Province; Serenje in Central Province; Mufulira in Copperbelt Province; and Solwezi in Northwestern Province.

 Ambassador Sobashima recalled that JOCVs have been sent to Zambia since 1970, and the number of them and that of senior volunteers exceed 1400, said that JOCVs are working seriously, nurturing friendship with the local people, and are highly appreciated by them, remarked that he is proud of the extensive level of the people to people exchanges and cooperation under way now, in Zambia, and highly appreciated the activities of JOCVs.

 As of December 2016, 64 JOCVs are working in Zambia. It is hoped that the JOCVs will continue to “bridge” Japan and Zambia in their respective fields at the grass-root.
