Reception to Celebrate the Birthday of The Emperor of Japan
On 25th November 2016, the Embassy of Japan hosted a Reception to Celebrate the Birthday of His Majesty The Emperor of Japan at the Ambassador’s residence in Lusaka. The Guests present there included the Hon. Matthew Nkhuwa, MP, Minister of Works and Supply, the Hon. Given Lubinda, MP, Minister of Justice, and the Hon. Emerine Kabanshi, MP, Minister of Community Development and Social Welfare.
Mr. Hidenobu Sobashima, Ambassador of Japan to Zambia stated in his speech delivered as the host, explained the current situation of Japan’s cooperation to Zambia in the areas of （1）vitalization of the industries, （2）development of the economic infrastructure, and （3）improvement of the social infrastructure, introduced an extensive level of cooperation by the Japanese experts and volunteers totaling about 100 as well as by a number of the Japanese NGOs, and dwelled on the contributions made by the Japanese companies in Zambia. He then expressed his determination to do his best, building upon the long-standing cooperative relations between the two countries in various areas, and in cooperation with the Japanese experts, volunteers, NGOs and companies in Zambia, to advance our bilateral relations in such fields as ODA, trade and investment, particularly by implementing Japan’s TICAD (Tokyo International Conference on African Development) VI initiatives.
Then the Hon. Matthew Nkhuwa, MP, Minister of Works and Supply, as the Guest of Honour, expressed in his speech, the gratitude of the Government of Zambia for Japan's long term contribution of development assistance to Zambia, and his sincere hope for the further development of the relationship between the two countries.
At the Reception, Japanese companies exhibited their renowned cars and displays exhibiting their cutting-edge products. Also available were Japanese dishes such as Tempura and Sushi, as well as Japanese Sake, attracting keen interest of many people present there.
About 250 guests were present at the Reception from the Government of Zambia, Zambian companies, universities, mass media, sport organizations, Japanese companies, ODA related organizations, diplomatic missions and international organizations.
