The 6th National KAIZEN Conference took place at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka on the 26th and 27th of October, 2016. Mr. Shuichi Sakakibara, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of Japan to the Republic of Zambia, attended as a special guest. The Conference was held under the theme “Transforming Zambia to Business Excellence” and about twenty (20) companies and institutions participated in the Conference.

At the Conference, the organizations from three categories, manufacturing sector, non-manufacturing sector and public sector, made their presentations. The participants presented how the Kaizen method in field analysis and efficiency improvement led to tangible results such as reduction of labor time and material cost. There were also lively discussions on outcome measurement and cost of Kaizen activities.

The Japanese government, through JICA, is supporting Kaizen activities in order to strengthen the competitiveness of industries in Zambia. Through the “National KAIZEN Project”, Japan has supported the establishment of Kaizen Institute of Zambia (KIZ), capacity building of local consultants, implementation of Kaizen methods in public and private organizations, regional seminars and international networking in the field of KAIZEN.
