Launching Ceremony of Maternity Waiting House and other facilities at Kalweo Rural Health Center in Mpongwe District
2016/10/11
The launching ceremony of a Maternity Waiting House and other facilities took place at the Kalweo Rural Health Center in Mpongwe District on October 7th, 2016. The construction of these facilities was implemented as a part of “the Maternal Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) One Stop Service Project in Masaiti and Mpongwe Districts in Zambia”. This project commenced with a Grant Contract with Japanese Organization for International Cooperation in Family Planning (JOICFP) in December, 2015, amounting to 451,106 USD as the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO projects.
Dignitaries present at the event included Mr. Shuichi Sakakibara, Chargé d’Affaires ad Interim of Japan to Zambia, Dr. Consity Mwale, Copperbelt Provincial Medical Officer, Mrs. Chisanga Ruth Kabwe, Mpongwe District Administrative Officer, Dr. Mary Zulu, Chairperson of Planned Parenthood Association of Zamnbia, and Ms. Sumie Ishii, Chairperson of JOICFP.
This is the second year, Phase Two, of the three-year community-based comprehensive project, which aims to improve the health status of expectant women and newborn babies within ten project areas of Masaiti and Mpongwe Districts. Under Phase Two of the Project, JOICFP established a One-Stop Service Site in Kalweo Rural Health Center. Here, the community obtains access to a comprehensive selection of medical services at a single location. With the newly constructed buildings such as the Maternity Waiting House and the Maternity Ward, it is hoped that more expectant women in the area will have access to the facility-based delivery with appropriate medical treatment.
Through the “Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects” scheme, the Government of Japan provides grant assistance to Japanese NGOs which implement economic and social development projects in developing countries.
