Presentation of Letter of Credence by Ambassador Mikami to COMESA Secretary General H.E. Ms. Chileshe Kapwepwe

On 19th March 2026, Ambassador Mikami presented his Letter of Credence to Her Excellency Ms. Chileshe Kapwepwe, Secretary General of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), as Special Representative of Japan to COMESA.
Ambassador Mikami highlighted that COMESA contributes to promoting regional economic growth, expanding the Free Trade Area, as well as regional peace and stability through various initiatives to strengthen connectivity and facilitate trade among the Member States. Ambassador also expressed his desire to work closely with the COMESA Secretariat to deepen Japan-COMESA relations, promoting investment by the Japanese private sector in the region and strengthening economic ties with Japan, as the focus of recent Japan-Africa cooperation shifts from "aid to investment."
