UNCTAD’s Launch of the Report, “Rapid Assessment for Value Addition and Diversification to Support Zambia”

On 17th February 2026, UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development) hosted the ceremony to mark the launch of its report titled “Rapid Assessment of Value Addition and Diversification Capacity in Zambia” that was prepared under the UNCTAD’s project, funded by the Government of Japan.
Ambassador Mikami who attended the ceremony expressed his hope that the findings and recommendations from this report would be a valuable tool for Zambian policy makers and contribute to well-informed and constructive dialogue.
Honourable Chipoka Mulenga, Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, commended the report as a crucial milestone for Zambia’s industrialization agenda, focusing on value -addition, processing, and sustainable use of resources.
Ms. Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary-General of UNCTAD, emphasized that two-thirds of the developing countries depend on primary commodities, and the energy transition offers an opportunity to reshape global trade. She also stated that Zambia has the critical minerals the world needs and the foundation to turn them into higher value-added products.
