Presentation of Credentials by Ambassador Mikami to President H.E. Hakainde Hichilema

On 27th January 2026, His Excellency Mr. Akiteru MIKAMI, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan, presented his credentials to His Excellency Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Mikami conveyed a message from His Majesty the Emperor of Japan and reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the duties as Ambassador. Ambassador Mikami emphasised this dedication to strengthening and deepening the bilateral relationship of Japan and Zambia as equal partners and true friends, highlighting the importance of supporting each other in a mutually beneficial way that goes beyond current existing economic cooperation by increasing investment from Japan and deepening mutual understanding between the people of Japan and Zambia.
President Hichilema expressed gratitude for Japan's past support, highlighting its recent assistance with Zambia's debt restructuring. He also appreciated Japan's readiness to support Zambia whenever needed. President Hichilema conveyed his expectations for a greater presence of Japanese companies in Zambia and increased investments from Japan, emphasising his expectation to continue strengthening the comprehensive economic partnership between the two nations.
Ambassador Mikami has officially commenced his mission as the Ambassador of Japan to Zambia, dedicating himself to further strengthen the longstanding friendship between the two countries.
