LsCon 2022 and Japanese Ambassador’s commendation to Nerd Otaku

On 5th November 2022, the Embassy of Japan participated in the the Lusaka Comic Convention (LsCon 2022) at Lusaka Civic Centre, Nakatindi Hall, hosted by Nerd Otaku, a Zambian community-led organisation that focuses on art and culture, particularly pop-culture from Japan.
LsCon 2022 showcased inspiring Japanese digital and creative industries in the form of video games, movies and animation among others, and how they are received by Zambian fans in a creative manner with zeal. The voltage was peaked at the cosplay competition with approximately 350 participants.
The Embassy of Japan also interacted with the visitors using Japan’s authentic cultural heritage like Origami, Kimono and Calligraphy. A photo booth with traditional tea ceremony set-up was also offered, where participants dressed in traditional Japanese wear “Yukata” took photos.
Taking this opportunity, Japanese Ambassador Mr MIZUUCHI Ryuta presented a Certificate of his Commendation to the Nerd Otaku team in recognition of its distinguished contribution to deepening mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and Zambia. This commendation was unanimously welcomed by the audience with cheers. We hope that activities of Nerd Otaku will further bring Japanese pop-culture closer to people in Zambia.
