EMBASSY OF JAPAN HOLDS SEND- OFF CEREMONY FOR ZAMBIAN OLYMPIC CONTINGENT

On 19th May 2021, the Embassy of Japan held a send-off ceremony for Zambian Olympic Contingent at the Ambassador Residence in collaboration with the National Olympic Committee of Zambia in the presence of Dr. John Phiri, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth, Sport and Child Development, as the Guest of Honour.
 
The Olympians from four sports, athletics, boxing, football and swimming out of the six that are expected to represent Zambia at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games were welcomed and congratulated by Mr. MIZUUCHI Ryuta, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zambia. He revealed in his remarks that the day of Zambian independence was that of the Closing Ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics 1964 and explained that the ties between Japan and Zambia have been connected so closely by the Tokyo Olympics, from the moment Zambia declared its independence.
 
He also introduced the Host Town Initiative and that Asahi City in Chiba Prefecture and Marumori Town in Miyagi Prefecture are among host towns for Zambia, and express his hope that a strong friendship will be born from exchanges between Zambian Olympians and the citizens of those two communities in Japan.
 
The Embassy of Japan in Zambia wishes the Zambian Contingent all the best and great success in the Olympic Games.
