MEXT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME 2025

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (English acronym: MEXT, in Japanese: Monbukagakusho) offers scholarships to Zambian students wishing to pursue their studies at Japanese universities.
 
The scholarship covers:
1. Full tuition
2. Monthly allowance
3. Round trip flight between Zambia and Japan
 
You can apply either by sending the required documents by e-mail (jez.pr@lu.mofa.go.jp) or by sending/bringing them in hardcopy to the Embassy. If applying by e-mail, please mention [MEXT, sur name and first name] in the subject line. Please be advised that we cannot accept e-mails exceeding 10 MB in size.

RESEARCH STUDENTS

1. Currently Open for Application:
Yes
 
2. Duration:
a) Non-regular students: 18 or 24 months until the end of March 2027
b) Regular students: Necessary period for the completion of the regular course
Extension may be possible if you proceed to a further degree programme.
 
3. Departure Date:
April or September/October 2025
 
4. Placement at University:
Designated by MEXT, based on your admission or a letter of provisional acceptance you obtain from Japanese universities.
 
5. Application Deadline:
No later than Friday, 31 May 2024, 16:35 hrs
 
6. Selection Process:
a) Application documents review from 31 May
b) Notification of results to shortlisted applicants by 14 June
c) Written test on 21 June at the Embassy
d) Interview test, scheduled on 28 June at the Embassy
e) Notification of results of the 1st screening by 2 July
f) Acceptance notification

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

The MEXT Scholarship programme for undergraduate students has been suspended in Zambia, due to a lack of suitable candidates in recent years. There are currently no plans to resume the programme.
