On 21st February, Mr. Hidenobu Sobashima, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zambia, hosted a music concert at his residence. Ms. Agnes de Longevialle, pianist and Ms. Delphine Schelles Hocquard, soprano singer, who were visiting from France, Mr. Chrispin Lindunda, Zambian tenor singer, and Ms. Chinatsu Hirayama, Japanese soprano singer, resident in Lusaka performed the concert.
About 50 guests including Ambassadors and High Commissioners to Zambia, Japanese residents and Zambian business men enjoyed an evening with music, as the three singers sang a total of 15 songs including operas and Japanese songs, with the piano accompaniment.
At the beginning of the concert, Ambassador Sobashima greeted the guests, and mentioning that as he was hosting the first official concert, appreciated the musicians for having agreed to perform, the guest for having come, and particularly Mr. Sylvain Berger, Ambassador of France to Zambia for having solved the issues to be solved, and expressed his pleasure to host a concert of collaboration by French, Japanese, and Zambian musicians. Ambassador Berger aslo expressed his pleasure to witness the concert to happen as Ambassador Sobashima had agreed to the proposal.
As there are only limited occasions available for experiencing Japanese culture in Zambia, such an occasion as this concert is expected to broaden exchanges and deepen mutual understanding between Japan and Zambia.
