Reception to Celebrate the Birthday of The Emperor of Japan

     On 5th December 2017, the Embassy of Japan hosted a Reception to Celebrate the Birthday of His Majesty The Emperor of Japan at the Ambassador’s residence in Lusaka. The Reception was attended by the Hon. Vincent Mwale, MP, Minister of Local Government, as the Guest of Honour, and many people from various fields.

 

     In his speech delivered as the host, Mr. Hidenobu Sobashima, Ambassador of Japan to Zambia overviewed the political and economic situations of Zambia and stated his intention to support Zambia’s efforts to become a middle income country, explaining Japan’s development assistance to Zambia to date as well as its recent cooperation as a follow-up to the initiatives announced at Tokyo International Conference on African Development.

     Mr. Sobashima also mentioned activities of the Japanese society and Japanese companies in Zambia and sport and cultural events hosted by the Embassy of Japan. The Ambassador then expressed the Embassy’s determination, in cooperation with the Japanese experts, volunteers, NGOs and companies in Zambia, to contribute to the economic growth and development of Zambia and to further development of the relations between Japan and Zambia.

 

     Then the Hon. Vincent Mwale, MP, Minister of Local Government, as the Guest of Honour, expressed in his speech, the gratitude of the Government of Zambia for Japan's long term contribution of development assistance to Zambia, and his sincere hope for the further development of the relationship between the two countries.

 

     At the Reception, Japanese companies exhibited their renowned automobiles and cutting-edge product displays. Also available were Japanese dishes such as Tempura, Oden and Sushi, as well as Japanese Sake, attracting keen interest of many people present there.

     About 260 guests were present at the Reception from the Government of Zambia, Zambian companies, universities, mass media, sport organizations, Japanese companies, ODA related organizations, diplomatic missions and international organizations.
