Government of Japan Provides 522 thousand Zambian Kwacha

to Civic Forum on Housing and Habitat

On 16th October 2014, Mr. Kiyoshi Koinuma, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zambia presented on behalf of the Government of Japan, a Grant amounting to 84,200 United States Dollars, or approximately 522 thousand Kwacha to Civic Forum on Housing and Habitat to facilitate the implementation of the project for Construction of new community school buildings in Mahopo Community, Lusaka City.
Civic Forum on Housing and Habitat has been dealing with various housing issues in Zambia together with its member NGOs. Mahopo Community, one of their catchment areas in Lusaka City, lacks the basic facilities and systems such as health, education, sanitation as well as adequate housing. There are about 450 children who are of school going age; however, there is only one community school in the area, and it uses a church building as classrooms. Some children have to commute to the nearest government school which is 14 km away from the community.
It is hoped that the construction of the new school buildings and the provision of related facilities will help to provide a conducive learning environment and ultimately a better education for the children.
