The Society for Promotion of Japanese Diplomacy (SPJD) presents Recycled Fire Fighting Vehicles to the Ministry of Local Government and Housing

On 6th December, 2013, H.E. Mr. Kiyoshi Koinuma, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zambia, participated in the handover ceremony of seventeen fire engines and four refuse collection trucks provided by the Society for Promotion of Japanese Diplomacy, to the Ministry of Local Government and Housing, in Lusaka.

The purpose of the hand-over is to increase the number of emergency vehicles under the Ministry of Local Government and Housing in order to contribute to the enhancement of the Ministry’s capacity to tackle fire outbreaks which occur frequently, especially during the dry season.

The Society for Promotion of Japanese Diplomacy (SPJD) was established in 1947. It is a non-profit organization and one of its major activities is to donate recycled emergency vehicles from local governments in Japan to developing countries.

Japan trusts that these vehicles will be effectively utilised and well maintained so that they can serve many people for a long time to come. It is also hoped that the donation will further strengthen the cordial friendship existing between Japan and Zambia.
