Zambia Business Women Seminar

On 25th February, 2016, the Embassies of Japan and United States of America collaboratively held the Zambia Business Women’s Speaker Event, supported by WECREATE Zambia.

The aim of the event is to encourage and give counsel to Zambian businesswomen on the theme of how to grow business by providing a platform for Zambian business women, as well as to cultivate a mutual understanding amongst the three countries involved, on the significance of promoting women empowerment.

At the beginning of the event, the opening speeches were delivered by H.E. Mr. Kiyoshi Koinuma, Ambassador of Japan to Zambia, H.E. Mr. Eric Schultz, Ambassador of the U.S. to Zambia and Ms. Nambula Kachumi, Executive Director, WECREATE Zambia. Also, as the Guest of Honour, Hon. Prof Nkandu Luo, M.P. Minister of Gender expressed appreciation for the Embassies’ initiatives of promoting women empowerment.

As the Speakers at this interactive event, two prominent Zambian business women, Ms. Monica Musonda, Chief Executive Officer of Java Foods and Ms. Faith Kabenda, Fashion Designer of Fay Designs delivered lectures on the theme of Growing Your Business, providing their knowledge and business experiences. Following the seminar, the guests also attended a networking reception, where they interacted with the speakers and other guests to discuss the environment of the women’s business in Zambia.

It is hoped that this event will promote wide-ranging exchanges between Japan, the U.S. and Zambia by deepening mutual understanding of efforts towards business enhancement, and that the occasion will be a stepping stone towards a realization of a society in which women shine.
