Japan Provides 5.6 Million Zambian Kwacha (ZMW)

to AAR Japan

On 11th February, H.E. Mr. Kiyoshi KOINUMA, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zambia, signed, on behalf of the Government of Japan, a grant contract with Mr. Ryota HIRAMA, Country Representative of Association for Aid and Relief Japan (AAR Japan).

The contract, amounting to 517,936 United States dollars, or approximately 5.6 million Zambian Kwacha, was signed to facilitate the implementation of the Maternal and Child Health Project in Chisankane Area, Kafue District. This is the first year, Phase One, of the three-year community-based project.

In Chisankane Area, poor access to health facilities is a challenge because of the lack of sufficient health posts, which forces large numbers of pregnant women to give birth at home. Therefore, there is an urgent need to promote safe delivery at the health facilities with proper medical attention.

During Phase One, AAR Japan will construct one health post in Chisankane area. The other activities for this year also include the provision of medical equipment and the training of 90 Neighbourhood Health Committee (NHC) members.

It is expected that AAR Japan’s new project will contribute to the improvement of Maternal, Newborn and Child Health status through the establishment of the basic health system in Chisankane area.
