National Launch

of the Zambia Female Youth Livelihood and Nutrition Enhancement Project

(FYNEP)

 

 

The national launch ceremony of the Zambia Female Youth Livelihood and Nutrition Enhancement Project (FYNEP) took place in Lusaka on 19th January 2016. The Government of Japan supports this project through Japan Social Development Fund, JSDF, for the World Bank.

 

The overall objective of the project, which is implemented by Concern Worldwide, is to improve access to livelihood opportunities and nutrition among female youth in project areas of Limulunga and Kaoma Districts of the Western Province of Zambia. 3000 Female youth aged 10-14 years and 3300 female youth aged 15-24 years will be the direct beneficiaries of the project.

 

Dignitaries present at the event included H. E. Mr. Kiyoshi KOINUMA, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zambia, Dr. Reuben Kamoto Mbewe, Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Ms. Ina-Marlene Ruthenberg, Country Representative, World Bank Zambia, and Ms. Danny Harvey, Country Director, Concern Worldwide Zambia.

 

FYNEP consists of 4 main interventions which are delivered through girls clubs:

・Nutrition intervention aimed to improve maternal and child nutrition practices and increase uptake of growth monitoring

・Health interventions aimed to increase awareness and demand for health services, anemia prevention measures, and use of mosquito nets

・Agriculture intervention to promote diversified food production in order to increase the year-round availability of micronutrient foods at household level

・Life skills intervention to build skills and competencies such as decision making and communication skills

 

JSDF was founded in June 2000 by the Government of Japan and is intended for sustainable social programs such as capacity building and empowerment that directly support the most vulnerable people. So far, the Government of Japan has contributed approximately 660 million United States Dollars to this fund.
