Launching Ceremony of Maternity Waiting House and other related facilities for the Maternal Newborn and Child Health One Stop Service Project in Masaiti and Mpongwe Districts in Zambia by Japanese Organization for International Cooperation in Family Planning (JOICFP)

The launching ceremony of a Maternity Waiting House and other related facilities for the Maternal Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) One Stop Service Project in Masaiti and Mpongwe Districts in Zambia took place at the Mutaba Rural Health Center in Masaiti District on 3rd September 2015. This project commenced with a Grant Contract with Japanese Organization for International Cooperation in Family Planning (JOICFP) in December, 2014, amounting to 751,253 USD as the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO projects.

Dignitaries present at the event included H. E. Mr. Kiyoshi KOINUMA, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zambia, Royal Highness Chief Chiwala, Hon. Mr. Obvious Chisala, Deputy Minister of Community Development Mother and Child Health, Hon. Mr. Mwenya Musenge, Copperbelt Province Minister, and Mr. Ryoichi Suzuki, Executive Director of JOICFP.

This is the first year, Phase One, of the three-year community-based comprehensive project within ten project areas of Masaiti and Mpongwe Districts, with the aim of improving health status of expectant women and newborn babies. Under Phase One of the Project, JOICFP established a One-Stop Service Site in Mutaba Rural Health Center. Here, the community will have access to a comprehensive selection of medical services at a single location. With the newly equipped buildings such as the Maternity Waiting House and the Maternity Ward, it is hoped that more expectant women in the area will have access to the facility-based delivery with appropriate medical treatment.

Through the “Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects” scheme, the Government of Japan provides grant assistance to Japanese NGOs which implement economic and social development projects in developing countries.
