Reception for promoting academic exchanges
and Prof. Aaron Mweene receives Japanese Ambassador’s commendation
On 16th June 2015, the Embassy of Japan hosted a Reception for promoting academic exchanges at the Ambassador’s residence in Lusaka. Distinguished Guests included the Hon. Given Lubinda, M.P., Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Prof. Shigeo Ito, Professor emeritus, Center for Zoonosis Control, Hokkaido University, Japan, Prof. Stephen Simukanga, Vice Chancellor, University of Zambia, etc.
H. E. Mr. Kiyoshi Koinuma, Ambassador of Japan to Zambia delivered his speech, saying it is the memorial year of the University of Zambia School of Veterinary Medicine which was established by the Government of Japan for celebrating the 30th Anniversary, and he hopes to see more Zambian students study in Japan and return to apply their skill and expertise in Zambia. Moreover, he expressed confidence that the Government of Japan will continue to promote academic exchanges between Zambia and Japan.
Prof. Shigeo Ito, Professor emeritus, Center for Zoonosis Control, Hokkaido University, Japan, expressed gratitude to the Government of Japan for its support for research of infectious diseases. In addition, it is gratifying for Hokkaido University to have an exchange programme with the University of Zambia School of Veterinary Medicine for a long time. He said that he would like to continue the partnership.
Moreover, H.E. Mr. Kiyoshi Koinuma, awarded Prof. Aaron Mweene, Associate Professor, University of Zambia, with the Ambassador’s commendation in recognition of his contribution to develop zoonosis and friendship between Japan and Zambia. H.E. Mr. Kiyoshi Koinuma presented his compliments to Prof. Mweene by commending him for the significant contribution he has made to develop zoonosis in Zambia and Japan. In response, Prof. Mweene expressed his gratitude for the commendation and recalled the unique experience during his studies in Hokkaido. He also said that he would continue to work towards further promoting the exchange between the two countries.
More than 50 guests from the Government of Zambia, University of Zambia and University Teaching Hospital (UTH), interacted with each other at the Reception and exchanged opinions of academic exchange and joint research. In addition, on the same day, The Symposium for Zambia-Japan Collaboration on Zoonosis was held under Hokkaido University and University of Zambia at the lecture theater of the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Zambia.
