Annual Assembly of Japan Scholars
On 11 March 2015, the Embassy of Japan hosted the Annual Assembly of Japan scholars belonging to an alumni association of former scholarship students to Japan.
In a greeting message, H. E. Mr. Kiyoshi Koinuma, the Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zambia mentioned that he would like to enhance academic exchanges between Zambia and Japan by focusing on the youth, emphasizing a significant role to be played by members of the Japan Scholars as a cornerstone of relations between the two countries. As the Guest of Honour, Mrs. Christine Mayondi, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Education, Science, Vocational Training and Early Education expressed appreciation for Japan’s assistance including academic exchanges. A delegation from the Hokkaido University also attended the assembly and introduced “Coordinator for Study in Japan Project” to the Japan scholars.
The Government of Japan is offering scholarships to international students who wish to study in postgraduate or graduate programs at Japanese universities. The aim of these scholarships is to promote international exchange, thus enhance the Japan’s relationship with other countries and contribute to human resource development. Every year, two or three Zambian students are awarded scholarships and go studying in Japan. After completing studies in Japan, they are playing important roles in the development of Zambia in various areas.
It is hoped that the vitalization of the Japan Scholars and closer networks among the members will further broaden and strengthen the relationship between Japan and Zambia.
