The Handover Ceremony of Zambia for the Project for Improvement of

Sports Facilities of National Olympic Committee of Zambia

On 10th March 2015, the Handover ceremony of the Grass-roots Cultural Aid, amounting to about one hundred thousand US dollars, for improvement of sports facilities of National Olympic Committee of Zambia took place in Lusaka. H.E. Mr. Kiyoshi Koinuma, Ambassador of Japan to Zambia attended the ceremony and delivered the speech. Also, Hon. Ronald K. Chitotela, M.P., Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport and Mrs. Mirriam Moyo, the President of National Olympic Committee of Zambia expressed gratitude to the Embassy of Japan for its support.

In 2012, the Embassy of Japan granted about one hundred thousand dollars to construct an athletic field, a soccer court, a tennis court and a netball court, naming the facility “YAMATO-Fields”. In this Project, the grant has been used for the construction of a hockey court, a volleyball court and a basketball court.

It is hoped that the Project will contribute to identifying sporting talent among the youth and fostering international sport leaders, as well as ensuring sound upbringing of children by providing ordinary citizens, especially underprivileged youths with a safe sport facility.
